And yes, you should wear green. Arbor Day - Our April event where the Women of Action collaborate with the Huntington Beach Tree Society, and either plant a new tree or assist with a joint program. Queen’s Rose Garden - Planting the yearly rose given and planted by the City in the Rose Garden outside of Council Chambers, 2000 Main Street at Yorktown. Toys for Joy Mixer - Fundraiser in December for Project Self-Sufficiency with donations going to several non-profit groups
Carole Ann Wall
of the Sand Dollars has been a member since 1964 and served as president for eight terms. She has been active with the Fourth of July Executive Board since 1973 and served as President of three yearly celebrations. As a member of the founding group who established the Therapeutic Riding Center in Huntington Beach , she continues to serve young people and adults with disabilities who learn the joy of riding a horse and its therapeutic benefits. She now serves as the organization's President.
Her awards include the national Athena Award for professional accomplishments, California Women of the Year, Orange County's Volunteer of the Year, Silver Bowl Award, Huntington Beach Citizen of the Year and the first women to receive the Distinguished Service Award from the Huntington Beach Jaycees.
Jim Sankey
Jim is the official photographer for the Miss Huntington Beach Scholarship Pageant, as well as for the many activities of the The Sand Dollars . Jim, a former City of Huntington Beach employee, has chronicled the life of Miss Huntington Beach with his photos which many are featured here on misshb.org
During the Rose Dedication, a special poem is created by long-time community partner and Sand Dollars member, Elaine Craft and is personalized to the Queen.
Miss HB Scholarship Pageant
The intensive 6-month plus preparation for this February tradition culminating in crowing one young woman and her court the title, the reign and the exposure that brings with it a lifetime memory and a year of service! Monthly Meetings Various restaurants and locations for meetings to discuss schedules, up coming events for Miss Huntington Beach and many more itinerary opportunities. AND… The Sand Dollars are members of the H.B. Coordinating Council, wherein a representative attends each meeting as well hosting meetings. The Sand Dollars collaborate and have officers in the California Women in Chambers of Commerce. The Sand Dollars are made up of many active committees, including Membership, Historian, Publicity, Sunshine and Welfare and more!
